The West Chester University Wind Ensemble is select group of some 50 musicians that performs masterworks of the wind repertoire and is active in the commissioning and performance of new works by contemporary composers. The group maintains a busy schedule of performances on and off campus including recent conference performances at the College Band Directors National Association’s Eastern Division Conference and the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association’s State In-Service Conference.
Recent guest artists have included Donald Hunsberger, Frank Battisti, William Berz, Eric Ewazen, John Mackey, Eric Aubier and Alan Vizutti.
Over the past several years, the West Chester University Wind Ensemble has actively pursued the commissioning of new music for wind band. Recent commissions include Rob Maggio’s Glass Ceiling, Joseph Turrin’s Concertino for 11 Instruments and Wind Ensemble, and as part of consortium’s that have sponsored Steven Bryant’s Concerto for Wind Ensemble and Kevin Walczyk’s Scion concerto for clarinet and wind ensemble.
The Wind Ensemble rehearses Monday and Thursday evenings from 5:45 pm – 7:30 pm during the Fall and Spring terms.
